Julian is one of Belize's top permit guides and as such, is a great source
of information about the area. And it is precisely this area that makes
fishing out of Whippari such a great experience. The permit fishing is
excellent and there are few places that offer better shots at this challenging
fish. Several of the permit flats are only a 5 minute boat ride away from
the island.
This is your classic permit setting for those who love to wade to their
fish. Your guide will pole you along the pristine flats until a fish is
spotted. You'll then be asked to quietly slip out of the boat and slowly
wade toward the fish to get the best possible shot at it. The flats are
stunning and many of them stretch for several miles. When the tides aren't
right and there's no permit on the flats, there are several year round
schools of tarpon within 15 minutes of the island. These fish range between
25 and 75 pounds with larger tarpon a distinct possibility. There are times
during the late fall and winter months when the tarpon are found right
off the southern end of Whippari Caye. When this happens, you can get
up at first light and fish for an hour or so during the most productive
part of the day and then head back to the island for breakfast.

Hammocks on the porch invite weary anglers to stop and rest while offering
the perfect place to watch the sun set on another day in Permit Paradise.

Located
11 miles off the coast of Placencia, and surrounded by some of the finest
permit waters found anywhere, lies the tiny island known as Whippari
Caye. This charming little island is owned and operated
by our good friends, Julian and Beverly Cabral. With warm smiles and ice
cold Belikins at the ready, Julian and Bev make it very easy to unwind
and adjust to the slow wrhythms of island life. Guests will take the 30
minute flight down the coast of Belize to the fishing village of Placencia.
From there you'll be met at the airstrip and escorted to the boat docks,
where you'll take the 30 minute ride out to the island.
Whippari
Caye can only accommodate 8 rods at a time, which makes it ideal for small
groups looking for a unique and intimate setting. The cabanas are comfortable
and each room has 2 double beds and its own private bathroom with hot
and cold water.

The thatched
bar and restaurant at Whippari is the gathering point on the island. It's
a wonderful place to have a cold beer and dissect the day's events while
tying up a few Merkins or shooting a game of darts.
The food is fantastic and the house specialty is freshseafood. Lobster,
conch, shrimp, and fresh fish areserved daily (in season) and in abundant
portions. This place is tough to beat for those who want to get away from
it all while focusing on permit.
