Turneffe
Flats has long been recognized as one the finest flats
fishing destinations found anywhere! It's blessed with a vast network
of wadeable bonefish flats that seemingly go on forever. The Turneffe
Atoll is the largest of the four coral atolls found in the Western Hemisphere
and Turneffe Flats Lodge is beautifully situated in the midst of countless
productive flats, the majority of which are only 5 to 20 minutes away.
Guests will depart for the lodge on Saturday afternoons from the Princess
Hotel Marina in Belize City. During the boat ride to the lodge, guests
will travel through several offshore cayes, the Barrier Reef, and then
across the Turneffe Islands to Turneff Flats. The 90-minute ride out to
the atoll is made in the comfort of a covered, Pro 48 ft. boat. The expansive
lush flats found out at Turneffe are full of crabs, shrimp, and other
bonefish foods. This translates into incredible numbers of bonefish, both
in large and small schools, as well as singles and doubles. Wading these
picturesque flats while sight casting to tailing and cruising bonefish
is an absolute joy. The
hard packed coral flats are relatively easy to wade, and anglers of all
ages can handle the terrain.

The tarpon
fishing can be excellent during the spring and summer months. This involves
blind casting with sinking lines into the river mouths found throughout
the atoll. Guest can expect tarpon from 30 pounds to well over 100 pounds.
The social
center for Turneffe Flats is the main lodge building, where meals are
served. A pre-dinner gathering for drinks and hors d?oeuvres at the bar
is a great place to swap stories and compare notes on the day's angling
adventures.

The comfortable guestrooms are located right on the beach and all have
a fantastic view of Caribbean. Each room is centrally air conditioned
and furnished with one queen size bed and one single bed.

You will
definitely need a pair of high quality wading boots for this trip. Permit
can also be found throughout the year and in abundance out at Turneffe,
usually in the cuts and channels on the edges of the flats. Fish range
between 8 and 20 pounds, although larger fish are caught with a fair degree
of regularity at Turneffe.
Craig
Hayes and his staff have created a fantastic environment where guests
will revel in the community feeling that Turneffe Flats absolutely exudes.
And non fishing partners will enjoy Turnffe almost as much as those who
come for the fly fishing.

All rooms
have private baths with 2 sinks and a shower. When staying out at Turneffe
Flats, comfort is never an issue. Leaving on the other hand might be!
