Hand-crafted of exquisite local hard woods, the main lodge houses the
dining room, bar and 10 guest rooms. There are also 6 lovely thatched
cabanas built right over the water that have a real Balinese feel to them.
Each of the rooms has a private bath, fans, hot and cold running water,
and electricity. The food at St Georges Caye is excellent and guests can
expect delicious and imaginative meals featuring homemade soups, fresh
baked breads, seafood and local dishes. Fresh fruits and vegetables are
brought in daily from Belize City and virtually all special dietary requests
can be accommodated with enough notice.

The island is surrounded by quality fishing situations, from the Lobster
Shack, which has lots of bones and permit, to the tarpon flats of Long
Caye. We like to run guests up to Hicks Caye for bones and permit and
then work back towards the lodge, fishing the back end of Porto Stuck
for big tailing bones found on the outside of the flats.

When the weather cooperates, guests can run down to the Robinson Point
Islands to fish for permit, tarpon and jacks. The stunning flats south
of Water Caye can also be fished for permit and will even produce tarpon
now and then. If you want a real mixed bag where a Gland Slam is possible
every time you hit the water, St. Georges Caye is a great choice. This
is a great trip for first time “salties” who want shots at
a wide variety of species. |

St. Georges Caye is located about 8 miles off the coast of Belize City.
The island is rich in history, having been described by historians as
the site at which the British Navy defeated the Spanish fleet in 1789.
We like the Caye because it’s surrounded by some of the best fishing
in all of Belize. If you want to spend the week specifically chasing a
Grand Slam, this location should be at the top of your list. Guests will
be met at the airport in Belize City by a member of the BFFE staff and
escorted out to the island. And what an island it is! The lush grounds
of the resort are beautiful and the view to the west, which over looks
the reef and some very productive flats, is just gorgeous.

The fishing is what really makes St. Georges Caye such a great destination.
The variety of places you can fish, the different types of environments
in which you’ll find yourself, and the short runs, makes this a
stellar location from which to fish. Our guides know exactly where to
go depending on what you want to catch.

If you’re interested in fishing for tarpon, then you have many options
from which to choose. The Gin clear water of the Savannah Flats can be
reached within a half hour from the lodge and these flats are the only
traditional shallow water tarpon flats south of Florida. The Drowned Cayes
to the south of St Georges Caye, are a great fishery and will produce
all manner of fish, from snook and tarpon, to big bruising jacks.
