Ranguana Caye is a stunning, privately owned island located 18 miles south of the fishing village of Placencia. This pristine coral island is situated right on the reef and located in the heart of some of the most productive fishing grounds that Belize has to offer. Once used as a local fishing camp, the island still retains a great deal of its rustic charm. The living accommodations, three brightly coloured guest cabanas, are on stilts and overlook the reef.

Guests will fly from the International Airport in Belize City down to the fishing village of Placencia. The 30-minute flight is spectacular, and if you can, try to get a seat on the left side of the plane for the flight down. The view of the coast, the islands, and flats off the coast, are a great introduction to your week with us. From the airstrip in Placencia, a waiting taxi will take you to the waterfront where you’ll board a water taxi for the 40-minute ride out to the island. The cabanas are fairly basic but comfortable and can accommodate two adults with room to spare. Each cabana has its own porch with hammock. The sunrise and sunsets from your porch are worth the trip alone! All meals are taken under the large thatch, which is situated just off the kitchen.

To the south of Ranguana Caye, lies the Sapodilla Caye Marine Reserve. This cluster of islands is a great place to fish for a day or two and you’re likely to encounter good numbers of both bonefish and permit. The reef fishing on the way down to the Sapodillas is excellent and you may just catch your dinner on the way down or the way back.

The warm Caribbean breeze is a great companion while dining in this informal atmosphere. The food is a traditional blend of local dishes and fruits with a heavy influence of seafood. Lobster and conch with lots of fresh caught tuna and grouper can be expected.
The bonefishing right off the island is excellent and there are countless bonefish that inhabit the waters around the island. You can stand on the beach and watch wave after wave of bonefish and jacks coming in to feed on the abundant schools of bait-fish that live in the shallows around the island. Ranguana Caye consistently produces some of the largest bonefish in all of Belize, so, if you’re dreaming of a 10-pound bone, you’ll definitely see a few of them here.

To the north of Rangauna, guests will access the large number of flats off the coast of Placencia. Permit in particular, are plentiful in this area. If guests are interested, they can spend a day during their week fishing the productive backcountry area of Monkey River for tarpon and snook. It’s a 40-minute ride back to the mainland, but well worth the trip for those who are looking for a change of pace during the week. The Ranguana Island Bonefish camp is ideal for those who are really looking to get away from it all. This is an isolated island suitable for those who don’t mind sacrificing a bit of comfort to get the most out of their fishing week. There are few other places anywhere where guests can fish all day and then come back to the island and fish well into darkness as successfully as you can at Ranguana Island Bonefish camp. When the week is over, you won’t want to leave.
